Famous Indian musician A.R. Rahman recently announced his divorce, and just a few hours later, his band’s guitarist, Mohini Dey, revealed her own separation from her husband, Mark.
On the evening of November 19, Saira Banu’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, confirmed that Rahman’s nearly 30-year marriage had come to an end. In an official statement, she stated that various complexities in their relationship led to this decision. While they still cared deeply for each other, they faced unresolved challenges that created distance.
Rahman later shared his feelings on his X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing, “We had hoped to celebrate 30 years together, but in this world, everything has an unexpected ending. Even the throne of God shakes under the weight of broken hearts.”
The couple, who tied the knot on March 12, 1995, share three children.
Shortly after Rahman’s announcement, guitarist Mohini Dey, a prominent musician in Rahman’s band, made her own announcement about her separation. In a joint statement with her husband, she wrote, “With heavy hearts, Mark and I want to share that we have decided to part ways. This is a mutual decision, and we will continue to remain good friends.”
At just 29, Mohini is a talented guitarist from Kolkata, known for her remarkable skills and having performed with Rahman in over 40 concerts globally. She has established herself as an important figure in the international music scene.
The close timing of these separations has captured significant attention. Fans are rallying around both Rahman and Dey, expressing support and sympathy as they face these challenging moments.
