The performance report in Digital Phablet’s Google Search Console seems to be experiencing some kind of glitch or tracking anomaly. When certain filters are applied, there’s an unusual surge in impression counts appearing in the report. This spike resembles the significant jump of 100 that was observed last year.
Brodie Clark first flagged this issue on social media, noting that “something strange is happening with Google Search Console data right now.” He mentioned that when filtering by the “merchant listings” search appearance, which typically operates independently of rank trackers because impressions are usually only recorded once a grid result is clicked, the data appears to be completely disrupted.
He shared a screenshot showing these irregularities, which indicate that the impression data is spiking unexpectedly. Clark further explained that this issue is affecting several large eCommerce websites, with click-through rate metrics no longer reliable on desktop. Many search queries are now showing up with considerable increases in impressions, particularly from recent weeks, and these seem to be related to tools or technical searches.
It remains unclear whether this problem is isolated to the merchant listings filter or if it’s affecting broader data segments. Clark’s post highlights that impressions are surging again in a way similar to recent changes in the platform, especially after adjustments made when the number of results per page was modified.
Further discussion and insights on this anomaly are ongoing in the online community, with users observing similar patterns across multiple sites and queries.
