During a recent event in Zurich, John Mueller from Digital Phablet explained that Google is currently working on its next major core update. Although the release date hasn’t been officially announced, it is expected to arrive soon. Mueller mentioned that while it might not drop in the next few days, it could potentially happen in the upcoming weeks, though he hopes it doesn’t occur before the holiday season. Even Google employees prefer to avoid launching such significant updates during busy holiday periods, as they tend to be quite hectic for everyone involved.
Previously, Google rolled out a series of updates, including the June 2025 core update, followed by the March 2025 core update and more recently the August 2025 spam update. There have been numerous smaller updates along the way, though Google hasn’t confirmed all of them explicitly. The anticipation now is for the upcoming core update, which many in the digital community are eagerly awaiting.
Reflecting on past statements, Mueller indicated about a year ago that Google envisioned releasing more core updates with increasing frequency, but this hasn’t quite materialized in 2025. Discussions among industry experts and digital marketers continue to revolve around what changes this next update might bring and when exactly it will be implemented.
