Digital Phablet reports that Google Ads has introduced a new feature called asset group theming for Performance Max campaigns. This feature enables advertisers to duplicate an existing asset group and easily apply a predefined theme—such as seasonal events or holidays—using Google’s AI to automatically generate relevant images, headlines, and descriptions.
Asset group theming simplifies the process of creating tailored variations of ad creatives, perfect for special occasions like Easter, Valentine’s Day, or back-to-school promotions. When a theme is applied to a copy of a successful asset group, new creative assets are produced with just a few clicks, allowing campaigns to scale efficiently around key moments without modifying the original assets. This helps maintain campaign consistency while testing different thematic variations.
This feature was highlighted by Bia Camargo, who shared her findings on LinkedIn. She explained that by cloning a high-performing asset group and applying a seasonal theme, Google dynamically generates themed images, headlines, and descriptions aligned with the specific event or promotion. The original asset group remains unchanged, enabling safe testing of different creative variations.
Her post included a screenshot demonstrating how the process works, and Google provides detailed guidance through a help document that explains how to leverage this new theming capability effectively.
