Google is launching a feature called “Personal Intelligence” within the Gemini app, which will soon be integrated into Google Search’s AI Mode. According to an official announcement, Personal Intelligence allows users to seamlessly connect Gmail, Photos, YouTube, and Search with a single tap, creating a unified experience.
This feature will also be accessible directly through Google Search’s AI Mode once it becomes available, enhancing the search experience by providing more personalized and context-aware responses. Google emphasizes that Personal Intelligence excels at reasoning across multiple complex sources and retrieving specific details from emails or photos to answer questions accurately. It combines data from various media types—such as text, images, and videos—to deliver highly tailored answers.
Initially, Personal Intelligence is in a beta phase and is turned off by default. Users can choose which apps to connect, and the rollout is currently limited to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the United States. Support extends across web browsers, Android, and iOS devices, and is compatible with all Gemini models available in the model picker.
Soon, the feature will be available for the free tier of Gemini users and integrated into Google Search’s AI Mode. Users can opt out of personalization for certain responses by using a ‘try again’ option or providing feedback through a thumbs down button.
Demos of the feature showcase its capabilities. For example, asking Gemini to recommend tires for a car enables it to reference connected apps like Gmail and Photos to understand the car’s make, model, and typical usage, providing well-informed suggestions. Another demo shows Gemini suggesting books aligned with the user’s interests by reasoning across multiple sources, offering more relevant recommendations.
The rollout will be gradual, with users being notified via invites on their Gemini home screens or through manual activation steps, such as navigating to the settings and enabling Personal Intelligence. This development marks a significant step toward making the Gemini app more personalized and proactive in delivering useful information based on the user’s connected accounts.
