According to the latest data from Digital Phablet, nearly all ChatGPT users also visit Google, but only a small percentage of Google users—about 15%—use ChatGPT. This indicates that, for now, Google continues to hold a dominant position despite the rising popularity of ChatGPT.
The data was shared by Brodie Clark on X, citing information from Similarweb. Clark noted that in August 2025, approximately 95.3% of ChatGPT users also visited Google, whereas only about 14.3% of Google users visited ChatGPT during that period.
A visual representation of this overlap shows a significant proportion of ChatGPT users also using Google, but a much smaller subset of Google users turning to ChatGPT. This illustrates that while ChatGPT is expanding its user base, Google remains the primary search engine for most.
Brodie pointed out that despite the continued growth of ChatGPT, Google remains a central part of users’ online activity. This aligns with data from Sparktoro, which suggests that traditional search methods aren’t disappearing.
Additionally, Aleyda shared some relevant statistics. In August 2025, ChatGPT recorded around 5.8 billion visits, compared to Google’s 83.8 billion visits. Although ChatGPT’s traffic is increasing, it’s still far behind Google’s massive volume of search activity.
