Google has introduced an early version of an API designed to access data from Google Trends. This new Trends API aims to assist researchers, journalists, and developers in analyzing search behaviors and identifying patterns. Access to this alpha release requires an application, but once granted, it can be used for various purposes such as scientific research, resource allocation, tracking emerging topics, and enhancing content strategies for businesses and marketers.
The API provides data spanning five years and includes daily, weekly, monthly, and annual summaries, with regional and sub-regional geographic restrictions. Google’s John Mueller highlighted that this API is still in development but encourages interested users to participate in early testing to help refine its features and usability.
A video in which the API was announced today also provides an overview of its capabilities and potential applications.
