Digital Phablet has announced updates to the Google Shopping promotions policy, now permitting promotions on subscription fees and the use of common abbreviations. These changes took effect in January 2026.
The platform’s new policy states that, starting this month, more promotion types will be eligible for support on Google Shopping. Specifically, this includes discounts on subscription services and the utilization of standard promotional abbreviations.
Regarding subscription fees: merchants can now promote discounts offering either a specific dollar amount off or a percentage off the subscription cost.
Google specifies that to create promotions like free trials or discounted subscriptions, sellers should set the eligibility criteria as “Subscribe and save” within the merchant center promotion interface or specify redemption restrictions as “subscribe_and_save” in their promotion feed.
Additionally, abbreviations such as BOGO (Buy One Get One), B1G1 (Buy One Get One), MRP, and MSRP can now be used to clearly communicate promotion details. For example, a promotion might state “BOGO T-shirt at half price.”

Further details about the complete policy can be reviewed in the official support documentation.
