Google appears to be testing or introducing a new AI chat feature called “Ask Stores” within Google Shopping. This tool allows users to inquire about difficult-to-find items, shopping options, styling advice, home decor, trending products, brands, and selling opportunities. When selecting “Get advice,” an AI chatbot emerges on the right side of the page, notifying users that conversations may be reviewed to enhance Google’s AI capabilities. Although it seems related to the existing sales assistant, this new feature seems to function differently.
This discovery was shared by David Kyle on X, and I successfully replicated it in one of my browsers. The interface shows a chat window activated by clicking “Get advice,” and a looping GIF demonstrates the interaction. Additionally, several static screenshots capture the chat interface during use.
Further investigation by David revealed that “Ask Stores” appears above the product listing ads (PLAs) in Google Shopping. He noted that Poshmark has integrated directly within the interface to facilitate sales through their site. However, it seems that the AI feature primarily responds to listings from Poshmark, even when users specify they are not interested in shopping there, claiming a “direct collaboration” when asked about integration logistics. This suggests that the AI’s functionality might be limited or targeted to specific stores at this stage.
Discussions around this feature are ongoing in forums and among industry professionals, highlighting its emerging role in online shopping and retail assistance.
