Google Search Rankings Remain Highly Volatile

The heat in Google’s search rankings shows no signs of cooling down. Industry observers are eager for an official announcement of a Google core update, but as of now, nothing has been confirmed.

Daily updates continue to emerge, likely representing smaller core updates that Google prefers not to openly acknowledge.

For context, the February 2026 Google Discover Core Update began on February 5, 2026, and wrapped up by February 27, 2026.

Earlier, the volatility persisted into March, with some signs of easing in late February—a perception that may not be entirely accurate. The fluctuations have been frequent, notably around February 15th and throughout the previous week, including notable activity on February 10th, February 2nd, and January 29th onward. Additional spikes occurred around January 26th and 27th, with earlier fluctuations back to January 21st, 15th, 12th, and 6th. Prior to this, the December 2025 core update launched on December 11th at approximately 12:25 pm ET and concluded on December 29th at around 2:05 pm ET, experiencing two noticeable spikes on December 13th and December 20th.

Worst start to a week ever. Another significant update this weekend resulted in about a 60% drop in traffic.

Something shifted on Saturday: Discover reappeared, rankings surged on Sistrix, and we outperformed major news sites in our niche. Sales boomed from Friday onward, and rankings improved. It looks like something is happening, and we’re monitoring if it continues.

We took a huge hit—over 80% loss—yet our rankings are now better than they were before.

This site is essentially dead—traffic plummeted from 200k to 5k daily. After ten years of effort, it feels lost.

Twenty years of daily content creation—you’re not alone in facing these challenges.

Expect the drop to 300 daily visitors if the trend continues.

What are others observing in their sites? The discussion continues in professional SEO forums, with a wide range of experiences and opinions being shared.
