Google has introduced Personal Intelligence into Google Search’s AI Mode, a feature that first debuted last week within the Gemini app and is now gradually rolling out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States, in English. This update allows users to connect their Gmail and Google Photos accounts securely, enabling personalized search responses based on their individual context and insights.
According to Robby Stein, Vice President of Product at Google Search, subscribers of AI Pro and Ultra can opt-in to this feature, which integrates data from Gmail and Photos to provide more tailored and helpful search results. The connection process involves navigating to Search settings, selecting search personalization, and linking Gmail and Google Photos under connected content apps.
Eligible users can activate the feature by visiting a dedicated labs experiment page and opting in. Once enabled, they can ask questions such as planning family trips based on their preferences, creating personalized scavenger hunts for special occasions, seeking decorating ideas for their children’s bedrooms, or exploring fun personality-related questions like identifying which book hero they resemble or which fashion era suits them best.
This experimental feature is available for personal Google accounts and does not extend to Workspace business, enterprise, or educational accounts. It automatically becomes accessible to eligible users in the U.S. as it is rolled out.
A demonstration of the feature shows how users can personalize their search experience by integrating their personal content, making responses more relevant and tailored to individual interests and history. Feedback from users is encouraged as the rollout continues.
