Google is experimenting with the use of differently colored map pins within the map feature in Google AI Mode. These pins are appearing in various colors such as red, blue, yellow, and potentially orange. Additionally, Google is including a color key beneath the map, which explains what each color represents.
This was observed by Gagan Ghotra, who shared screenshots of the new map display on X. In the images, the map features color-coded pins and a legend detailing each color’s significance. He also noted that in AI Mode, Google is now testing a layout where the map appears at the top of the search results answer. Since not all functions are replicable yet, it appears these are part of ongoing testing.
Gagan mentioned that for certain query types, Google shows a map with colored pins and provides explanations of what each color indicates below the map. The map’s position has shifted from the bottom to the top of the answer section in these tests. Details of these changes have also been discussed on his blog and are being talked about in forum discussions.
