Google Discover is now possibly prioritizing X (formerly Twitter) posts from accounts users follow, rather than from all accounts in general. While the platform has occasionally surfaced X content for some time, recent observations suggest that it may be limiting displays to only those posts from followed accounts.
This insight was highlighted by Gagan Ghorta, who noticed that X posts appearing in Google Discover are from accounts a user actively follows. He inquired whether the setting could be adjusted to allow content from accounts outside the follow list to appear, fostering broader visibility. Google’s VP of Search Engineering, Rajan Patel, responded by confirming that Google is currently experimenting with various approaches to integrating X content into Discover.
The experimentation could mean significant changes in how social media content appears in search feeds, possibly affecting content reach and visibility strategies. This shift raises questions about potential impacts on content diversity and discovery.
Notably, some users have observed that Google is increasingly linking Discover to external accounts connected to SEO profiles, even when profile pages lack direct links. Such developments suggest ongoing testing and adjustments in how social media posts are surfaced within Google’s ecosystem.
