Google is testing out new keyboard shortcuts for the overlay menu within AI Overviews in Google Search. Rajan Patel, Vice President of Engineering for Google Search, confirmed that this feature is currently just an experiment.
The change was identified by Mayank Parmar, who shared a screenshot illustrating the new shortcut. When selecting text from the AI Overview, users will now see an option to access the menu using the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl + Shift + X,” which is a recent addition to the interface.
The overlay itself isn’t new, but the shortcut to open the menu adds a quicker navigation option for users. One screenshot shows the standard overlay, while another highlights the new shortcut prompt.
Rajan Patel clarified on social media that this feature remains in testing and may not be rolled out widely yet. Discussions circulating online suggest users are evaluating this new shortcut for potential future inclusion in the platform.
