Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, stated at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that Google currently has no plans to introduce advertisements within Gemini. This reassurance contrasts with recent announcements from OpenAI, which revealed that ads will soon be integrated into ChatGPT.
This information was reported by Alex Health, who noted that Hassabis made this statement during a live conversation at the Forum’s sidelines. Hassabis remarked, “It’s interesting they’ve gone for that so early,” in response to the news about ChatGPT ads—suggesting that OpenAI might be seeking additional revenue streams.
Google clarified last December that ads would not be added to the Gemini app, implying that the recent news about OpenAI isn’t a sign that Google plans to do the same anytime soon. The key difference remains that OpenAI is actively moving toward featuring ads in ChatGPT, while Google’s approach appears cautious.
