A new feature appears to be showing up in the Google Ads Channel Performance report attributes section—a “Campaign Type” option. This change has been observed by some advertisers without any official announcement from Google.
Mike Ryan shared his discovery on LinkedIn, noting that alongside other attributes, a new “Campaign Type” selector has appeared. He also pointed out a tooltip in the report that states, “Channel performance data is only available for Performance Max campaigns at this time.” The phrase “at this time” hints at the possibility that support for additional campaign types may be added later.
Based on this, it looks like the Channel Performance report could soon support segmentation for more types of campaigns—most likely Demand Generation campaigns, but perhaps others as well. Ryan suggests that this could mean future updates will include data integration from search partner campaigns and API access, along with network segmentation within the Asset Group report for Performance Max campaigns.
Expanding filtering and segmentation options generally enhances campaign analysis capabilities, making it easier to drill down into specific data points for better optimization.
