Danny Sullivan is no longer serving as the Google Search Liaison. He has transitioned to a different role within Google to focus on new projects within the company’s Search team. Sullivan joined Google over seven years ago and was highly visible to the public until recent months. Prior to joining Google, he stepped down from his position as an independent journalist at Search Engine Land.
This new position appears to be more internally focused at Google and involves less public interaction, based on Sullivan’s recent online activities—though specifics remain uncertain. There were earlier rumors suggesting someone else might take over the Search Liaison responsibilities, but that doesn’t seem to have materialized. Most in the industry aren’t surprised by this change.
Sullivan announced via the Search Liaison official account that the account is now inactive and directed followers to other channels for updates: the Google Search Central accounts for site owners and the main Google account for the latest news.
A Google spokesperson confirmed that Sullivan is now working on new search-related projects within the company. They assured that Google will continue providing timely updates about Search and engaging with users and site owners through various channels, including the Google Search Central accounts. The official Search Central pages will still share updates on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and LinkedIn.
A couple of years after joining Google, Sullivan participated in a two-part interview series discussing his role and the industry, which can be found on YouTube.
