Google continues to integrate AI features into its search experience, aiming to make AI Mode more accessible from the SERPs and beyond. Recently, they added AI Mode directly to the search bar on the Google homepage. This is just one example of ongoing enhancements.
A clear sign of this shift was observed when the Search Labs “beaker” icon was removed from the mobile search homepage, especially on Android devices. In its place, Google introduced a new icon that provides quick access to your AI Mode history, streamlining user interaction with the feature.
According to a report from 9to5 Google on March 15th, this change was soon seen in the Google app, where the traditional beaker icon was replaced with a button for AI Mode history. This icon transitioned from a simple circle to a stylized lined version, offering a more straightforward way to revisit past AI interactions.
On social media, tech analysts like Glenn Gabe shared screenshots illustrating this update, highlighting the new icon’s placement within the Discover feed on the home tab. The update signifies Google’s move towards more seamless and immediate access to AI-driven functionalities, enhancing the overall search experience for users.
