Xiaomi has dismissed Wang Teng for leaking proprietary information less than ten months after promoting him to General Manager of its domestic marketing division. The company cited serious disciplinary violations, including conflicts of interest and leaking confidential data, as the reasons for his termination, which was carried out in accordance with company policies.
Wang joined Xiaomi in 2016 and was appointed as Product Director for the company’s sub-brand Redmi in March 2020. He was promoted to Marketing General Manager for China on December 31 of last year, while also serving as General Manager of Redmi, according to his social media account.
In a statement on Weibo, Wang expressed his remorse, stating, “I am very ashamed and apologize to everyone. I made some mistakes and accept the consequences.” He also thanked company leadership, including the founder and CEO, for their support over the years. “I am saddened to leave the company, but I will always support Xiaomi and Redmi.”
The company’s founder has publicly praised Wang multiple times, describing him as a versatile young manager who has held four different roles during his eight years with Xiaomi.
