TikTok announced the creation of a joint venture called TikTok USDS, with its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, holding a 19.9% stake as the largest individual shareholder. This new US data security partnership will manage the platform’s local operations within the country.
The joint venture aims to allow 200 million Americans and 7.5 million businesses to continue using TikTok, overseen by a seven-member board predominantly composed of US representatives, including the platform’s CEO.
Other parts of TikTok in the United States, fully owned by ByteDance in Beijing, will still handle global product integration and specific commercial activities such as e-commerce, advertising, and marketing—primary sources of revenue for the platform.
Investors managing TikTok USDS include Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX, each holding a 15% stake. Additional investors include Vastmere Strategic Investments—an affiliate of Susquehanna International Group—and Alpha Wave Partners.
The US division of TikTok, entirely owned by ByteDance, will remain responsible for ensuring a seamless global content experience, maintaining a consistent user interface, and managing functions related to e-commerce, advertising, and overall commercial operations.
