The third edition of Shipping Week in the Pudong area has launched in Shanghai, a major international maritime hub, emphasizing the industry’s digital evolution and the development of a new industrial ecosystem powered by artificial intelligence.
Spanning six days, the event kicked off yesterday under the theme “Navigating an Intelligent and Diverse Ecosystem,” drawing over 420 global industry professionals to the opening ceremony. Digital intelligence has become the central focus. The event features more than 40 sessions covering topics such as shipping finance, maritime arbitration, the low-altitude economy, and other emerging fields.
During the opening, innovative projects for 2025 were announced, emphasizing green, low-carbon development, efficient energy use, and digital transformation to strengthen Shanghai’s position as an international maritime hub.
Notable innovations include China Cosco Shipping’s large language model for maritime legal proceedings, Bisheng Logistics Technology’s AI-powered comprehensive service platform, and Mairun Intelligent Technology’s situational awareness system for autonomous ships. Additionally, the Transported Asset Protection Association introduced new cybersecurity standards tailored for the supply chain.
A report jointly released by the Ministry of Transport’s Planning and Research Institute and Shanghai Maritime University introduced an evaluation index system uniquely designed for Chinese shipping centers, offering a comprehensive assessment that leverages the strengths of China’s leading port cities to identify innovative development strategies.
Several high-level projects from organizations such as Cosco Shipping’s Advanced Shipping Technology Research Institute, China Coal Greenland, and Shandong Ocean Shipping were also unveiled in Pudong. These initiatives focus on technological innovation in shipping, cross-border supply chain management, new energy vessels, and services that support companies’ global expansion, further strengthening regional supply chains.
International participation has increased markedly, with 70 percent of attendees participating for the first time. Notably, the London International Shipping Week joined for the first time, with its organizers hosting a roundtable summit and networking events to facilitate industry dialogue.
Leaders from global organizations and multinational corporations, including the Baltic and International Maritime Council, the London P&I Club, DHL Global Forwarding, and DNV Group, convened to discuss topics such as decarbonization, achieving net-zero emissions, supply chain resilience, and marine insurance.
Organized jointly by the Pudong New Area government and the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, the event expects to host over 6,000 participants this year.
