Swire Coca-Cola, a Chinese bottling partner of the American beverage giant, has officially launched operations at its first facility under a ten-year, 12-billion-yuan (approximately $1.7 billion) investment initiative. This marks the beginning of the rollout of new, environmentally friendly, and technologically advanced beverage factories outlined in the company’s strategic plan.
The new plant, situated in Zhengzhou, Henan province, central China, is the first of these projects to become operational. The plant is designed with a planned annual output capacity of one million tons. This development is part of a broader effort by the company to enhance local manufacturing capabilities through investments in five production bases across China, including new factories, capacity upgrades, and digital innovations.
Recently, another notable Coca-Cola bottling company in China, COFCO Coca-Cola, inaugurated a new facility in Xi’an, Shaanxi province. This plant required a total investment of 1 billion yuan (around $140 million) and has an annual capacity exceeding 1.1 million tons.
The Zhengzhou facility incorporates over 30 energy-saving, carbon-reducing, and water-efficient technologies. It features a smart hot water center, intelligent refrigeration, and photovoltaic solar power generation. Additionally, it features an automated system with sorting robots and driverless transport vehicles to streamline everything from order processing and inventory management to packaging and distribution.
As a subsidiary of a British multinational conglomerate, this company has exclusive rights to produce, market, and distribute Coca-Cola products across 11 provinces and Shanghai on mainland China, as well as in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and parts of the western U.S., reaching a population of over 940 million.
The company has also finished constructing the main structure of a 1.3 billion yuan (about $182.5 million) smart, eco-friendly manufacturing base in Guangzhou. Production at this facility is expected to commence next year.
