The demand for the new Quark AI Glasses from Alibaba has far surpassed initial expectations since their launch last month, prompting key suppliers to urgently increase production capacity to address supply shortages ahead of the Chinese Lunar New Year shopping season.
Since their release, the team managing Quark AI Glasses has been diligently monitoring manufacturing capabilities, adding an assembly line at Luxshare Precision Industry’s factory and boosting component supplies. Production is expected to steadily improve starting next week, according to an insider from the Dongguan-based assembler.
Another major supplier of essential optical parts, such as waveguide plates, is also scaling up production to handle significant orders. The Beijing-based company recently put new equipment into operation to meet demand, said its founder.
The primary goal is to fully unlock production capacity by January to keep pace with the surge in consumer demand during the Lunar New Year festivities, a source involved with the product explained.
The Quark AI Glasses officially launched on November 27, marking Alibaba’s first hardware device featuring the Qwen large language model. The product line includes two series—S1 and G1—with six models in total. The S1 series starts at CNY3,799 (approximately USD538), while the G1 series begins at CNY1,899.
Since launching, sales have exploded. On major e-commerce platforms, the official flagship store releases limited daily stock that often sells out quickly. Physical retail outlets report waiting times of around a month, or even up to 40 days, for delivery.
Compared to smartphones, the supply chain for smart glasses is notably more complex, requiring longer assembly lines and higher calibration precision for critical components. These products integrate traditional optical technologies with emerging virtual and extended reality fields, as previously noted by Alibaba’s head of smart hardware.
