Several cities in southern China have activated precautionary measures as super typhoon Ragasa approaches. These measures include halting work and closing schools to protect residents.
In Guangdong province, Dongguan, Jiangmen, Shantou, Zhuhai, and Yangjiang, along with Haikou in Hainan province, announced the implementation of the “Five Stops” policy. This plan involves suspending classes, pausing work activities, halting production, stopping transportation services, and shutting down businesses.
The National Meteorological Center issued an orange-level typhoon alert early yesterday morning. Ragasa is forecasted to enter the northeastern South China Sea this morning and make landfall between Shenzhen and Xuwen in Guangdong tomorrow. Heavy rainfall and powerful winds are expected to significantly impact the central and eastern coastlines of Guangdong, as well as Hainan’s northern coast.
Dongguan declared that all schools, training centers, and outdoor activities would be suspended from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. on September 25. Additionally, food and express delivery services will cease from 2 p.m. today until early morning on September 25.
In Shenzhen, several rail lines and flights at Shenzhen Baoan International Airport will be suspended starting at 8 p.m. today. Ferry services, which were halted on September 21, are scheduled to resume on September 25.
Hainan announced that the Qiongzhou Strait would experience extended service suspensions starting from the night of September 23. Rail services to and from Hainan Island will also be disrupted during this period.
Travel advisories were issued yesterday for Haikou Meilan International Airport, warning travelers that flight schedules could be affected by the typhoon.
Fujian province, located northeast of Guangdong along the coast, reported that around 146 passenger ferries across 50 routes have been temporarily suspended as of yesterday.
In response to the approaching storm, major online retail and delivery platforms, including a popular supermarket chain, Taobao Flash, and Ele.me, have activated emergency protocols to safeguard delivery operations while continuing to serve customers.
