More than 5,000 counterfeit Pop Mart toys, including the popular Labubus figures, have been seized by Shanghai police, with a total value exceeding CNY12 million (approximately USD1.7 million).
Following customer reports, authorities from Shanghai’s Xuhui district apprehended all eight members of a criminal gang responsible for distributing fake toys since last November. Law enforcement also raided the gang’s warehouse, confiscating all merchandise involved.
One individual from the gang has been criminally detained on charges of selling counterfeit goods bearing registered trademarks, while the other seven are under criminal coercive measures enforced by the police.
Shanghai law enforcement plans to continue their investigation by focusing on upstream manufacturers and additional online retailers to uncover the full scope of the operation.
Consumers are advised to shop through official channels, verify product authenticity by scanning anti-counterfeiting codes, inspect packaging stickers, look for embossed logos, and scrutinize product details carefully to avoid counterfeit items.
