Recent findings reveal that approximately 99 percent of electric vehicle owners in China are open to purchasing a new electric car in the future. In contrast, only 88 percent of electric vehicle owners worldwide are considering buying another one, based on a survey of 12,000 respondents across the globe conducted in the second quarter. The survey showed that 92 percent in the Middle East and North Africa, 88 percent in the Americas, 87 percent in the Asia-Pacific region excluding China, and 84 percent in Europe are willing to make another EV purchase.
This high level of enthusiasm in China is attributed to strong governmental policies supporting vehicle electrification, a well-established ecosystem dominated by local industry leaders, and a culture highly receptive to technological advancements in mobility.
China also leads the world in electric vehicle adoption, with EV sales accounting for 49 percent of all vehicle sales last year, up from 36 percent in 2023. Worldwide, the market share of EV sales increased from 20 percent to 25 percent, with Europe maintaining a 25 percent share and the United States rising from 9 percent to 11 percent.
The country’s position as the fastest-growing EV market continues to be supported by the increasing variety of available models and rapid expansion of charging infrastructure nationwide. Less than 40 percent of those surveyed in China expressed dissatisfaction with the speed of public charging station construction, largely thanks to government support for infrastructure development, particularly fast-charging stations.
Leading the charge in China’s charging station market are companies such as Teld, StarCharge, YKC, State Grid Corporation of China, and Xiaoju Charge, which together control around 70 percent of public charging points across the country.
Meanwhile, as the European Union relaxes regulations on emissions from fuel vehicles, some markets are expected to see slightly lower EV adoption rates over the next two to three years than previously forecasted. Nonetheless, vehicle electrification remains an inevitable long-term trend.
