On December 16, McDonald’s China announced a slight price increase on several menu items, raising prices by 50 cents to 1 yuan (about 7 to 14 US cents). Classic favorites like the Big Mac, Double Filet-O-Fish, and Filet-O-Fish now cost an additional yuan. Snack items such as Chicken McNuggets and the Big Chicken Cutlet also saw their prices go up by 1 yuan. Additionally, items like the McCrispy Chicken and medium fries increased by 50 cents.
In its latest financial report, the company revealed a revenue of $7.1 billion for the third quarter, reflecting a 3% year-over-year increase. Net income also grew by 1%, reaching $2.3 billion. As of November 30, there were over 7,100 McDonald’s locations across China.
A spokesperson from the Chinese division stated, “We are dedicated to offering customers high-quality meals and excellent value. Currently, we’re running the McDonald’s Farm Food Festival promotion, including a CNY10 burger deal, and will continue to deliver great value, tasty food, and convenient service.”
Experts note that fluctuations in agricultural prices—such as rice, flour, meat, cooking oil, and vegetables—have made it more challenging for fast food chains to manage costs and mitigate risks in recent years.
Similarly, Kentucky Fried Chicken also adjusted prices upward. In December of the previous year, they announced a 2% price hike, about 50 cents to 2 yuan, to cope with rising costs and maintain sustainable growth.
