Egyptian and Chinese research institutions have formalized a partnership agreement aimed at fostering scientific research, academic collaboration, and the exchange of expertise. The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced this development on Wednesday.
The agreement was signed Tuesday by the Desert Research Center of Egypt, Wuhan Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Sino-Africa Joint Research Center affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
This partnership seeks to strengthen the strategic bonds between Egypt and China by encouraging applied scientific research and promoting sustainable development through knowledge sharing in areas like sustainable agriculture and environmental preservation. The collaboration also aims to leverage funding opportunities provided by China’s Belt and Road Initiative to support joint research efforts.
Key focus areas include natural resource sustainability and the use of remote sensing technologies to enhance agricultural productivity in fragile ecosystems affected by climate change.
An important component of the agreement is the establishment of a regional office of the China-Africa Research Center at the Desert Research Center in Cairo. This office will facilitate bilateral and multilateral cooperation among Chinese, Egyptian, and North African research entities, as well as oversee joint training programs to strengthen the skills of African professionals.
Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership, calling it a crucial step toward advancing scientific research, tackling environmental issues, and supporting sustainable development goals. He also noted that this collaboration would serve as a foundation for implementing advanced Chinese agricultural technologies to combat climate change and efficiently manage limited natural resources.
