The eighth China International Import Expo, which began yesterday, offers European companies a prime opportunity to observe and integrate into the Chinese market. From the emergence of a new generation of consumers to investment prospects in emerging industries, many executives see the event as a crucial window for global engagement.

China remains a key market for Hennessy, driving sales of the company’s premium product offerings. According to the CEO, the evolving consumer landscape in China presents significant growth opportunities for multinational brands, especially with the rapid rise of younger consumers. To stay relevant, Hennessy emphasizes immersing itself in these young consumers’ social environments to better understand their habits and preferences. Over recent years, the brand has ramped up its investment in Chinese e-commerce platforms and introduced product lines embedded with local cultural elements.

The six-day expo is viewed as a vital bridge connecting the global economy to China, as noted by the chief executive of a leading cosmetics firm. The company has increased its investments in China’s market in recent years, focusing heavily on technological innovations in beauty.

At this year’s event, the company is launching a dermatological science joint laboratory with a hospital affiliated with a prominent university, aimed at quickening the translation of clinical research into innovative beauty products.

Another major player, Bayer, highlights how the expo has expedited the entry of innovative products into China. Over the past seven years, the company has introduced numerous products — termed “CIIE babies” — into the Chinese market. Recently, Bayer showcased a high-pressure injection system that had previously obtained import certification and recently completed its registration process, marking a significant step toward localized manufacturing.

Sanofi sees continuous participation in the expo as evidence of China’s ongoing opening up. The company plans to debut two novel cardiovascular drugs at this year’s event and marks three decades of local manufacturing in China. A new insulin production facility is also in development in Beijing to reinforce supply chain resilience and better serve China’s patients.

German companies are actively exploring opportunities at the expo. A representative from Stuttgart noted that the event serves as a valuable platform for German brands to understand and expand in China. From automotive technology to advanced medical equipment, German innovations hold substantial promise for China’s large health and consumer markets.

A CEO from a medical device company highlighted the vast potential of China’s sports medicine and rehabilitation sector and expressed enthusiasm for introducing more products to Chinese consumers through the expo. This company has already seen investments from a Chinese dermatological firm and introduced collagen regeneration products to the Chinese market.

The expo also reflects China’s economic future, with officials emphasizing that openness fosters mutual benefits. Many German companies continue to see China as a vital destination for investment, with ongoing bilateral trade and acquisitions strengthening economic ties. The trend of Germany-based firms establishing a presence in China is expected to persist, driven by the opportunities showcased during the expo.
