Employees at some theaters in China have confirmed that the release of two upcoming Japanese films has been postponed. This decision follows provocative remarks made by Japanese leaders regarding Taiwan, which prompted China to advise its citizens to avoid traveling to Japan in the near future.
The movies, “Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Super Hot! The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers” and “Cells at Work!”, originally scheduled for release on December 6 and November 22, respectively, will now be delayed, according to staff at multiple cinema locations in Shanghai.
Last year, China imported over 20 Japanese films, with their combined box office receipts approaching 2.2 billion yuan (around 30.8 million US dollars). These films accounted for more than 24% of the total revenue from foreign movies in China. Notably, “The Boy and the Heron” ranked among the top 10 box office hits in China last year, contributing 38% to its worldwide earnings.
