Ronbay New Energy Technology announced that it has secured a significant contract valued at approximately 17.2 billion USD for lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) cathode materials from a major leader in battery manufacturing. This deal is expected to position the company as a top supplier within the industry.
The company will supply 3.05 million tons of LFP cathode materials to the factory facilities of this client across China, along with related services, starting this quarter through 2030. The announcement highlights that Ronbay and its subsidiaries will also gain priority access to participate in upcoming projects and new product development initiatives related to this client. Additionally, plans are underway to develop new capacity, products, and operational strategies to support the global electric vehicle battery market.
The company noted that the costs associated with renewable energy are now falling below those of traditional fossil fuels. Coupled with the rising electricity demand powered by advancements in artificial intelligence, energy storage battery applications are poised to experience rapid growth. This trend is expected to open up substantial market opportunities for LFP cathode materials.
Following the deal announcement, the Shanghai Stock Exchange requested Ronbay to clarify how it plans to manage such a large order within 24 hours. The exchange also requested the company to conduct a self-assessment to identify any potential insider trading or other violations related to the transaction. Furthermore, it asked whether the company has any other ongoing or undisclosed capacity expansion initiatives or asset acquisitions, and to provide details on how the order’s estimated value was determined.
Due to these inquiries, Ronbay suspended trading today to prepare its responses.
Previously, the company primarily focused on ternary lithium battery cathode materials before shifting toward large-scale LFP cathode production last year. In November, it also became the main supplier of sodium-ion battery cathode materials for this client.
