Chinese manufacturers of cleaning robots performed remarkably well in the first half of the year, claiming the top four positions in global market share and expanding their international footprint through the launch of innovative products like lawn-mowing and pool-cleaning robots, according to the latest research.
Worldwide shipments of smart home-cleaning robots—including vacuums, lawn mowers, pool cleaners, window cleaners, and air purifiers—grew by 33 percent in the first six months compared to the previous year, reaching 15.4 million units, as reported by a US-based market research firm.
Leading the global market was a company with a 15.2 percent share, followed by another with 13.7 percent, a third with 10.2 percent, and a fourth holding 7.4 percent. An American firm ranked fifth with a 5.8 percent share.
The most popular cleaning robots continue to be robotic vacuums, with shipments increasing by 17 percent, reaching 11.3 million units in the period. Growth within the domestic market is mainly supported by effective government subsidy policies, while overseas expansion is driven by aggressive sales channel development.
Lawn-mowing robot shipments more than quadrupled year-over-year, reaching 2.3 million units in the first half of the year. Chinese brands such as Ninebot, Dreame, and Ecovacs saw significant growth in international orders. High-end consumers in Europe and the US are more receptive to smart devices and are willing to pay a premium, fueling increased demand for automatic lawn mowers.
Shipments of pool-cleaning robots also rose by 19 percent, totaling 933,000 units. Although overseas brands still hold dominance in this market, Chinese companies are making strides by introducing technological innovations and offering products tailored to European and US markets, according to IDC.
Manufacturers are continuously enhancing their robot cleaning products by adding new functions and expanding their applications, aiming to capture a larger share of international markets, said IDC’s senior analyst. They typically start by entering markets through e-commerce channels and, after establishing a customer base and brand recognition, they develop offline sales networks to increase their market presence.
This year, global shipments of cleaning robots are projected to grow by 28 percent to approximately 32.1 million units. The growth rate is expected to hold steady at about 30 percent annually, reaching nearly 70 million units by 2028.
