September 23 — A leading state-owned automotive manufacturer is poised to become the major stakeholder in Zhuoyu Technology, an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) developer spun off from a prominent drone manufacturer. This move is part of its larger strategy to advance into intelligent driving technology.
The automaker, based in Changchun, plans to acquire a 35.8 percent stake in Zhuoyu from a Hong Kong-based company, as detailed in a recent filing with the National Market Regulation Authority. This transaction will make the automaker the largest individual shareholder in the ADAS company.
After the acquisition, Zhuoyu will remain operational as an independent entity, a source within the company has confirmed.
Founded in 2016, Zhuoyu originated as the in-vehicle systems division of the drone maker before becoming an independent company in 2023. The Hong Kong-based firm was established in 2022 and mainly derives its revenue from Zhuoyu, although its full relationship with the drone company remains somewhat ambiguous.
Once considered one of China’s top four domestic ADAS players alongside Huawei Technologies, Momenta, and Horizon Robotics, Zhuoyu has reportedly experienced a decline in visibility and large-scale deployment since last year.
Industry experts believe this partnership will accelerate the automaker’s progress in developing intelligent driving systems. Meanwhile, Zhuoyu is expected to benefit from the automaker’s financial resources and industrial support, facilitating its growth and innovation efforts.
The company already maintains partnerships with major automotive manufacturers including Volkswagen, SAIC-GM-Wuling, Chery, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, and Great Wall Motor, according to its official website.
