Your Next AI App Could Come from Elon Musk’s xAI

Are you excited about another way to harness the power of AI? A recent report suggests that xAI’s chatbot, Grok, may soon be launched as a standalone application.

A New Way to Experience Grok

The Wall Street Journal reports that Elon Musk’s xAI plans to roll out its own app. Right now, the only access to Grok is through the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Subscribers in the Premium and Premium+ tiers get access to Grok as a benefit, with Premium priced at $7 per month, including various other features like enhanced reply boosts.

A dedicated Grok app could be available to consumers as soon as next month.

Interestingly, sources indicate that Grok is currently being utilized to assist SpaceX’s Starlink in providing customer support. There are also future plans for Grok to potentially serve as a search engine for X.

Grok has had a bit of a slow start, having been released just over a year ago. Unlike some of its competitors, it’s recognized for responding to inquiries with humor and sarcasm, which reflects Musk’s unique style.

Is Another AI App Necessary?

It’s easy to find a variety of standalone AI chat apps available for smartphones, tablets, or computers. Popular options include OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, Meta AI, Microsoft Copilot, and many others that don’t require subscriptions.

If you’re open to paying, premium features can be unlocked. For instance, ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode allows for engaging voice conversations, and this feature continues to expand its availability.

In addition to standalone apps, major companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Google are rapidly integrating native AI functionalities into their operating systems for computers and smartphones. Apple has just started rolling out Apple Intelligence features, with further additions planned through 2025.

For Grok to stand out in a standalone app format, it will need to offer unique features compared to the many existing options. It will be intriguing to see what innovations Musk has planned. While the idea of an AI-powered search engine for X is appealing, Grok will need to offer even more to capture users’ interest.
