The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 is currently taking place in Barcelona, featuring a host of exciting AI innovations alongside the latest smartphone releases. Major software and hardware companies are showcasing a variety of AI-driven products and services, emphasizing that we are indeed in the era of artificial intelligence, where corporations are striving to push the limits of technology. Let’s dive into the standout AI announcements at MWC 2025 from Google, Perplexity, Xiaomi, Lenovo, and others.

### 1. Google’s Gemini Live with Project Astra

Google kicked off the major AI announcements at MWC 2025 with its introduction of Project Astra. Initially announced at Google I/O 2024 in May, Project Astra has been undergoing enhancements since its December reveal, with plans to integrate it into the Gemini app.

At MWC 2025, Google showcased Project Astra to the audience for the first time. Integrated within the Gemini app, users can now share their screens and cameras for real-time interactions with the AI.

Google plans to roll out these live video and screen-sharing features to Gemini Advanced subscribers later this month, initially for Android devices. It’s worth noting that OpenAI has already introduced similar capabilities in ChatGPT, which places Google a bit behind in this area.

### 2. AI Phone by T-Mobile and Perplexity

Another significant announcement came from T-Mobile’s parent company, Deutsche Telekom, in collaboration with Perplexity, which unveiled an ambitious ‘AI Phone.’ This device will be driven by Perplexity’s AI Assistant and will feature the ‘Magenta AI’ system, incorporating technologies from ElevenLabs, Picsart, Google Cloud AI, among others.

The AI Phone allows users to interact through voice commands, enabling tasks such as booking restaurant reservations, purchasing flights, and even shopping. Deutsche Telekom plans to launch this device in the latter half of the year, with an expected price below $1,000 in Europe.

### 3. Xiaomi’s HyperAI

Joining the AI race, Xiaomi introduced HyperAI at MWC 2025. HyperAI is a comprehensive suite of generative AI capabilities designed for text generation, summarization, proofreading, AI-generated subtitles during video playback, and even AI art creation.

Additionally, HyperAI provides a cinematic touch to videos recorded on Xiaomi smartphones, and it allows for AI-driven searches using natural language, making the user experience even more engaging. Xiaomi states that HyperAI is currently available on its Xiaomi 15 series, with plans to extend it to the Xiaomi 14 series by April.

### 4. Honor’s Alpha Plan

At MWC 2025, Honor unveiled its Alpha Plan, developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, aimed at creating an open AI ecosystem. The goal is to enhance the interaction between humans and AI significantly. Honor is committing a massive $10 billion over the next five years to support this initiative.

The plan outlines three phases for AI integration: Agentic AI, Physical AI, and AGI. For now, the focus is on Agentic AI, which seeks to develop a graphical user interface (GUI)-based mobile agent capable of performing tasks like restaurant bookings and calendar management. Honor anticipates releasing these AI agents in smartphones by 2025.

### 5. Opera’s Agentic Browser Operator

Opera, the browser company, announced its innovative Browser Operator at MWC 2025, marking a significant advancement following OpenAI’s Operator AI. The Browser Operator in Opera can carry out web tasks based on natural language instructions, allowing users to focus on other priorities.

For instance, users can request the Browser Operator to purchase tennis socks from Nike or secure concert tickets. This AI agent operates locally on the device, offering a distinct advantage over OpenAI’s cloud-based system. Currently, Opera’s Browser Operator is in preview, with a full release coming soon.

### 6. Lenovo’s AI Display

Lenovo showcased a groundbreaking AI Display monitor equipped with a built-in Neural Processing Unit (NPU) at MWC 2025. This impressive NPU can perform up to 32 trillion operations per second, helping older computers run large language models locally.

Additionally, Lenovo introduced an AI Stick, which can be plugged into existing monitors to transform them into NPU-capable PCs.

### 7. Qualcomm’s X85 5G Modem

Qualcomm revealed its X85 5G modem at MWC 2025, boasting an enhanced AI processor designed to improve data speeds and coverage. The latest version features a 30% faster AI processor and incorporates an AI-powered Data Traffic Engine that minimizes latency while enhancing modem efficiency. This technology improves voice call quality and optimizes gaming experiences.

### 8. Motorola’s Smart Connect with AI

Motorola unveiled exciting new AI features for its Smart Connect app at MWC 2025, offering a seamless link between Android devices and Windows PCs. Users can interact with Moto AI to stream phone content to their laptops or smart TVs, as well as search for documents and files using natural language without the need to remember exact file names.

Overall, these announcements highlight the rapidly evolving landscape of AI across various industries at MWC 2025. Among these innovations, I’m particularly eager to see Project Astra making its debut on Android devices soon. What AI feature are you most looking forward to from MWC 2025?
