In a recent statement, Education Minister Huai Jinpeng addressed the growing concern surrounding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for writing assignments, announcing the ban on such practices in educational settings. He emphasized the need to ensure that students not only know how to utilize AI tools effectively but also understand their responsible use.

Minister Huai acknowledged that while AI can offer valuable assistance in learning, it is crucial for students to develop their own skills and critical thinking abilities. He called for educational institutions to integrate AI literacy into their curricula, teaching students how to harness technology as a beneficial resource rather than a crutch.

The Minister’s comments come amid increasing reports of students using AI to bypass traditional learning methods, raising alarms about academic integrity and the long-term impact on educational outcomes. Huai urged schools and educators to foster an environment that prioritizes ethical usage of technology, encouraging students to engage deeply with their studies.

As the debate over AI in education continues, the Ministry of Education plans to implement guidelines aimed at promoting a balanced approach to technology, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
