While various apps and websites allow you to keep tabs on your favorite artists and songs throughout the year, what if you’re in the mood for some playful banter and want to evaluate your music-listening habits? Here’s an AI tool that provides the same data as others but with a fun twist.

Music Stats With a Dash of Humor

You might have noticed the trend where people ask ChatGPT to roast their Instagram profiles or even themselves based on earlier prompts. But did you know that’s not where the AI roasting sensation began?

In 2020, a digital magazine named The Pudding introduced an AI tool called How Bad is Your Streaming Music?. This tool dares to critique your most-played songs and questions why you keep hitting the repeat button on certain tracks, not shying away from labeling your taste as either basic or downright cringe-worthy.

It offers up the statistics that actually count, like which songs and artists you love the most, all while serving it with a generous helping of sarcasm. The AI behind this tool has been shaped by over two million metrics of “objectively good music,” pulling insights from sources like Pitchfork reviews, record shop suggestions, and niche subreddits.

What Will the AI Reveal About Your Music Taste?

When you sign in using your Spotify or Apple Music credentials, it kicks off by asking about your listening habits. For instance, it started by questioning if I actually listen to “This is Me Trying” by Taylor Swift—one of my all-time favorites!

After I confidently clicked “yes,” it quickly followed up with, “Do you listen to it ironically?” Naturally, I selected “no,” only for it to move on to critiquing another favorite of mine. It chimed in with “Oh great, another Ariana Grande fan…”

Don’t fret; the AI will eventually shift its focus from roasting your favorite tracks to checking on you. And yes, it will get a few jabs in your direction too. For example, it asked if I’ve been doing okay since my Taylor Swift listening numbers seem a bit excessive lately.

Feeling somewhat called out, I replied with Not really, but instead of being lenient, it quipped: “Look, I’m just an algorithm. Do what you need to do.” Ouch!

To finish things off, it’ll wrap up by claiming it feels a bit nauseated while delivering a barrage of hyphenated descriptors of your music taste.

It labeled my Spotify as “tay-tay-fangirl-billie-stan-stop-getting-all-your-music-from-TikTok bad.” And it wasn’t finished. The AI proceeded to elaborate with terms like “aging-boy-band-stan bad,” “trendy-middle-part bad,” “still-listening-to-The-Scientist bad,” “arianator bad,” and “music-you-hear-at Rite Aid bad.”

It even identified your top overplayed tracks under the heading You Listen to These Too Much, and your favorite artists as You Stan These Artists to an Uncomfortable Degree. The AI is more than happy to inform you just how mainstream you are.

To be fair, while the AI may have been a bit harsh, it wasn’t entirely off the mark. My Spotify Wrapped confirmed that Taylor Swift is indeed one of my top artists, I’m part of Gen Z, and yes, I do get a lot of my music recommendations from TikTok—so perhaps I am a little basic! If you’re looking for something more substantial alongside Spotify Wrapped-style stats, check out Stats.fm.

Using the AI tool is incredibly straightforward. Here’s how it works:

  1. Navigate to the Judge My Music tool’s website and click the Find Out button.
  2. Connect the tool to your Spotify or Apple Music account by clicking on Log in with Spotify or Log in with Apple Music, depending on what you use.
  3. A login page for your chosen service will appear where you can enter your credentials as usual (your information isn’t shared with Judge My Music).
  4. After signing in, just follow the on-screen instructions.

Each time you log in, the tool will warn you that Spotify limits how many simultaneous users it can handle. Just disregard the warning and keep waiting. Now, simply answer the questions the AI throws at you and get ready for it to mercilessly roast your Spotify listening habits.

It won’t hold back, so get ready to enjoy the ride!
