On June 16, Tencent officially announced the launch of its latest algorithm competition, focusing on “multimodal sequence generation recommendation” technology. With a cash prize pool of one million yuan, the winning team will receive a grand prize of 200,000 yuan. Additionally, the top ten competitors will have direct opportunities for employment within Tencent’s core business sectors. Registration for the competition will close on July 31 at 11:59 PM and is open to students from universities around the globe.
The competition is organized by Tencent’s advertising business unit and will present participants with challenges involving industrial-grade multimodal data processing, including text, visuals, and collaborative IDs. Tencent has pledged to provide baseline models and technical guidance to support participants in leveraging cutting-edge AI technologies, such as multimodal understanding, sequential decision-making, and real-time generation.
This algorithm competition is closely aligned with Tencent’s recent talent strategy. In April, the company announced its largest recruitment effort to date, planning to add 28,000 internship positions over the next three years. Among these, 60% of the internship openings for 2025 will target technical talent, focusing on key domains like large models, algorithms, and cloud computing.
On June 12, Tencent’s “Qingyun Program” began recruiting top technical students worldwide, emphasizing the cultivation of talent in ten emerging technology areas. Industry experts suggest that as the wave of generative AI continues, efficient and precise advertising algorithms have transitioned from being optional business assets to essential tools for competitiveness, making the field a significant hub for AI talent.
According to Tencent’s advertising technology professionals, the digital advertising landscape offers an ideal environment for validating comprehensive AI applications, as advertising algorithms require seamless integration and collaboration of multiple advanced technologies. The optimizations made through these technologies can quickly translate into increased business revenue, creating an efficient loop from technology to commerce.
