Technology media outlet BleepingComputer reported on July 23 that OpenAI is developing a new video generation model called Sora 2, which is expected to become one of the most advanced AI models for video creation. The development stems from efforts by OpenAI to compete with Google’s Veo 3.
The discovery was made by a user identified as @btibor91 on the X platform (formerly Twitter). On July 21, this user found references to Sora 2 within OpenAI’s server code while inspecting their systems, suggesting the company has already made progress in developing this new model.
OpenAI previously released the Sora model on December 9, 2024. Since its launch, there has been a decline in public interest, but the model recently regained attention when Microsoft integrated it into Bing Video Creator as a free feature, fueling speculation about ongoing advancements and future releases.
