On October 31, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced on the X platform that GPT-6 will be renamed GPT-6-7. Altman did not specify the reasons behind this name change during the announcement.
According to reports from GeekPark, Altman shared insights into the latest developments of GPT-6 during a 90-minute live broadcast. He mentioned that OpenAI has been primarily focused on resolving challenges related to system integration, API functionality, and intellectual property, and has achieved some progress in these areas.
In terms of the underlying models, Altman highlighted that GPT-5 has been enhanced with increased predictive capabilities. He emphasized that improvements in these foundational models could lead to significant changes within the next two to five years, especially as application abilities continue to advance.
While there is anticipation about GPT-6’s capabilities, Altman suggested that its release may not represent a monumental leap like the jump from GPT-3 to GPT-5. Instead, it might be more of a targeted upgrade in specific areas. The specifics will likely depend on OpenAI’s internal planning, rules, investment strategies, and detailed development roadmap.
Looking ahead, GPT-6 is expected to be a critical stepping stone toward major advancements, marking what could be a significant upgrade in AI technology.
