Renowned Nobel laureate Demis Hassabis predicts that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) could arrive within the next five to ten years, and its impact might be ten times greater than that of the industrial revolution.
Hassabis, a leading figure in the field of artificial intelligence, emphasized the unprecedented scale of transformation AGI is poised to bring. Speaking at a recent conference, he explained that we are on the cusp of a technological leap that could fundamentally reshape industries, economies, and daily life—similar to or even surpassing the seismic shifts caused by the advent of machines and automation in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The expert also highlighted that advancements in machine learning and computational power have accelerated progress toward AGI, which aims to replicate human intelligence across the board, rather than being limited to specific tasks. He warned that while the technological promise is enormous, it also raises significant ethical and societal questions that need to be addressed proactively.
Hassabis’s bold forecast underscores a growing consensus among scientists and industry insiders: that the coming decade could mark a pivotal moment in human history, driven by breakthroughs in artificial intelligence that could redefine what is possible.
