Meta, in collaboration with prominent sports brand Oakley, is set to unveil a new line of smart glasses. A newly launched Instagram account, @oakleymeta, has posted a teaser video announcing a product launch event scheduled for this Friday, June 20.
Both the official Instagram account and Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, have shared the teaser on their platforms, alongside promotional efforts from Oakley’s social media channels. This widespread attention suggests the significance of the partnership between the two companies.
The teaser video concludes with the logos of both brands displayed side by side, reminiscent of the branding design introduced with the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. Additionally, Meta’s online store features banners that echo the teaser’s messaging—“The next generation of evolution arrives on June 20”—offering a subscription service for product updates.
According to earlier reports from Bloomberg, the smart glasses, designed based on Oakley’s Sphaera frame, are currently in development. Unlike the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses that have cameras positioned at the side of the frame, the Oakley Meta glasses are expected to feature a central camera placement.
Targeted primarily at cycling enthusiasts and other active sports participants, these glasses aim to compete with established brands in the action camera market, such as GoPro. This strategy highlights Meta’s intention to broaden its smart glasses product line by partnering with different eyewear brands.
It’s worth noting that both Oakley and Ray-Ban are brands under the EssilorLuxottica umbrella, which could streamline Meta’s multi-brand strategy within the smart glasses sector. With the Oakley Meta smart glasses launch on the horizon, Meta is poised to strengthen its position in the wearable tech market.
