On April 7th, Phoenix Technology News reported that Chen Wei, the former AI Chief Scientist and head of the foundational model division at Li Auto, has co-founded a new company focused on embodied intelligence called Xie Yue Intelligent. Chen Wei serves as Chairman and CTO, while Zhang Xiao, a former head of Li Auto’s second product line, has taken on the role of CEO. The company was officially established in February 2026, with initial funding jointly invested by Yuanjing Capital and Li Auto. The firm is expected to complete its business registration updates soon.
The company has assembled a team nearing 20 members and has established offices in Beijing, Hangzhou, and Shenzhen. They are currently recruiting core team members and technical specialists from the broader market.
Chen Wei joined Li Auto as Chief Scientist at the end of 2021 and led the full-stack development of Li Auto’s smart cockpit by late 2022, moving away from previous reliance on third-party suppliers. In 2023, Chen initiated the development of Li Auto’s internally created language model, MindGPT, with multimodal cognitive capabilities. The model was integrated into vehicles by the end of the year, marking the industry’s first deployment of a multimodal large cognitive model within a car’s smart cockpit.
It is also noted that among the many former Li Auto employees launching startups, Xie Yue Intelligent is only the second company to be invested in by the automaker. Previously, Li Auto had only invested in a company founded by former President Shen Yanan.
