In just two days after its public beta launch, Alibaba’s new AI application, Qianwen, has skyrocketed to the third spot on the top free apps chart in the Apple App Store. The app’s rapid rise highlights the increasing interest and enthusiasm surrounding Alibaba’s latest AI venture.
Since its debut on November 17, Qianwen has seen its popularity surge, even surpassing competitors like DeepSeek in recent rankings. The app’s debut was so highly anticipated that its servers experienced congestion, leading to a trending topic on Weibo with the phrase “Alibaba Qianwen crashed.” The company responded with a humorous message, reassuring users by saying, “I’m fine and in good shape. Feel free to ask questions.”
This swift success marks Alibaba’s aggressive push into the AI-to-Consumer (AI to C) market, signaling the company’s ambitions to be a serious contender in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Alibaba officials see this move as part of a broader “battle for the future in the AI era,” emphasizing the strategic importance of AI development.
Qianwen is a free app designed to be deeply integrated with Alibaba’s ecosystem, aiming to serve various daily life scenarios. The company plans to compete head-to-head with ChatGPT and other major AI platforms, hoping to establish a significant presence both domestically and internationally. An international version of Qianwen is also expected to launch soon, targeting global markets.
As Alibaba accelerates its AI ambitions, the company is clearly positioning Qianwen not just as a consumer app but as a key player in the future of AI-driven services on a worldwide scale.
