Google’s commitment to artificial intelligence is here to stay. In fact, the tech giant is enhancing its AI capabilities, integrating them even further into some of its most prominent products. This is why an AI mode is being introduced to Google Search.

Google’s AI Mode Revolutionizes Searching

The adoption of artificial intelligence is accelerating rapidly. Major tech companies are eager to stay competitive, striving to weave AI into their offerings. Google is no exception to this trend.

As shared in a recent blog post on The Keyword, Google is rolling out a new AI Mode for Search. This feature builds on the existing AI Overviews that many of us notice when we perform a Google search—unless the AI Overviews feature is disabled.

The new AI Mode utilizes a tailored version of Gemini 2.0, allowing for “enhanced reasoning, cognitive abilities, and multimodal functions.” This means you can pose a question and receive an AI-driven response. Additionally, you can ask follow-up or more complex questions that the traditional Google Search might not handle effectively in a single query.

Beyond the introduction of AI Mode, Google is broadening the scope of its AI Overviews in several ways.

Initially, Gemini 2.0 will oversee AI Overviews, equipping it to tackle tougher questions, particularly in areas like coding, advanced mathematics, and multimodal inquiries, with more capabilities to come.

Furthermore, AI Overviews will be accessible to a wider audience, including teenagers. You will no longer need to be signed in to view AI Overviews in Google Search results.

Don’t underestimate Google Gemini and the vast array of features it offers.

Premium AI Access Comes at a Cost

This new AI Mode by Google is exclusively available to subscribers of Google One AI Premium. This means you will need to pay a significant monthly fee to access this feature—at least for now.

Google is exercising great caution with AI Mode, as it’s currently offered only to Google One AI Premium members and is classified as an experimental feature within Google Labs.

Nevertheless, Google appears to have high aspirations for AI Mode, viewing it as the next logical step in the evolution of AI in search. Competing platforms like ChatGPT and Perplexity AI already provide similar functionalities, compelling Google to innovate or risk falling behind in the market.
