A recent breakthrough in autonomous robotics has been achieved in Shenzhen, where a humanoid robot developed by Yujiang now operates independently within a commercial cinema setting. This marks the world’s first successful deployment of a fully autonomous humanoid robot functioning seamlessly in a complex retail environment.
During a single workday, the robot was able to operate continuously for up to 14 hours without any human intervention, preset routes, or remote control. Impressively, it was able to sell over 1,000 cups of popcorn and generate daily revenues exceeding $20,000. The success of this operation demonstrates significant progress in the robot’s ability to independently execute tasks and interact within dynamic environments.
Equipped with a proprietary end-to-end model dubbed Dobot-VLA, the humanoid robot cansense its surroundings, interpret tasks, monitor the counter, recognize customer orders, and assess its operational status. Its internal systems support autonomous operations that include identifying instructions, gripping cups, accurately filling orders, and handing out items—all with zero errors over the course of its shift.
Throughout its 14-hour shift, the robot maintained flawless performance, flawlessly managing all aspects of customer service from start to finish. This achievement highlights the robot’s capacity for stable, error-free operation in a bustling commercial space.
Recent developments also include the company’s announcement of a new human-like robot, the Dobot Atom, slated for release in March 2025. Priced from approximately $19,900, the Dobot Atom features a height of 1.53 meters and weighs 62 kilograms. It boasts 41 degrees of freedom across its joints, a human-like arm with a precise 0.05mm repeatability, and an anthropomorphic head and fingers.
Designed for a variety of service and industrial tasks, the Dobot Atom can independently prepare breakfast foods, pour milk, set fruit plates, toast bread, serve customers, fetch documents, and deliver packages. As both a versatile and intelligent platform, this robot exemplifies the future of automation in retail, hospitality, and logistics.
