On March 6, ByteDance announced the launch of its new AI model, Doubao, which introduces an inference mode designed to enhance various digital interactions, including question-and-answer functions, search capabilities, writing assistance, and reading comprehension. Users can engage with this feature by activating the “Deep Thinking” switch in the input box.
Earlier this year, several competitors such as DeepSeek, Kimi, Tencent’s Yuanbao, and Wenxin have also released their respective inference models, indicating a rapidly evolving market in artificial intelligence technology.
According to the technical team behind Doubao, this new functionality is developed on the Doubao 1.5 Pro foundational model. It utilizes a proprietary reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm, allowing it to perform training optimizations without relying on external model data. This innovation aims to achieve a balance between computational efficiency and model performance.
Demonstrating its growing popularity, Tencent’s Yuanbao recently climbed to the top of Apple’s App Store free download rankings in China, surpassing DeepSeek, while Doubao secured the fourth position in the same chart.
