On November 18, it was announced that the Kimi K2 Thinking model, developed by Moon’s Dark Side, has been integrated into Perplexity, an AI search application. Notably, this makes Kimi K2 the only domestically produced model to be incorporated into the platform. Alongside it, OpenAI’s recently launched GPT-5.1 has also been adopted.
Perplexity, founded in 2022, has experienced rapid growth, with recent data showing it now boasts 30 million monthly active users and has achieved a valuation surpassing $20 billion, making it one of the highest-valued AI search apps globally.
The platform is credited with pioneering a new conversational “answer engine” category. By delivering real-time responses drawn from the latest internet information with clear citation sources, Perplexity has significantly transformed how users seek and conduct research.
Earlier, various AI applications such as Cherry Studio, Cline, CoStrict, Cursor, Genspark, Kilo Code, Kortix Suna, RooCode, Trae, Vercel, Visual Studio Code, Windsurf, and YouWare have also integrated with the Kimi K2 series models.
