As advancements in AI continue to escalate, we are witnessing a shift from simple chatbots to proactive AI agents that are poised to transform our daily interactions with technology and services. These agents are not limited to generating content; they can make decisions and take actions independently. In this article, we explore ten compelling applications of AI agents as we look ahead to 2025, ranging from AI that assists with computer tasks to fully autonomous vehicles.

1. AI Agents for Computer Tasks

The first notable category of AI agents focuses on computer tasks. Leading tech firms are developing agents to automate operations on both the web and local machines. Among these, the Operator AI developed by OpenAI stands out, as it can autonomously perform various web-based activities on behalf of the user.

The Operator AI agent can navigate websites, click buttons, fill out forms, type text, and scroll pages to accomplish a wide range of tasks. This makes it ideal for booking flights, securing hotel accommodations, ordering groceries, and more.

However, for sensitive processes such as making payments or solving CAPTCHAs, user intervention is still required. Available for ChatGPT Pro subscribers at a fee of $200 per month, this AI agent sets a new standard for efficiency.

Additionally, Anthropic has introduced its own computer-using AI agent, known as Claude, designed to perform tasks on your local machine while also browsing the web. This agent is currently in preview and requires API access from Anthropic.

Microsoft has also rolled out a similar AI agent via Copilot Studio targeted at enterprise users. This tool can interact with both desktop and web applications and complete complex tasks through visual screen analysis. Google is also working on a project called Mariner, which aims to develop a similar AI agent for Chrome, although it’s still in development.

2. Knowledge-Based AI Agents

The next category is knowledge-based AI agents, with OpenAI’s Deep Research AI agent leading the way. Available on ChatGPT, this agent can handle extensive, multi-faceted research like a professional analyst.

The Deep Research AI agent determines what information it needs, conducts web searches for high-quality sources, and generates comprehensive reports on various subjects.

Powered by the advanced ChatGPT o3 reasoning model, the reports it produces include in-line citations for easy verification. This agent can also analyze images, diagrams, tables, and even user-uploaded documents.

Google’s Gemini features a similar Deep Research AI agent available for free, while Anthropic has also introduced a research tool within Claude that can pull information from personal Google Workspace documents. Additionally, Manus, a Chinese AI agent currently in invite-only mode, can perform data analysis, run code, and generate detailed reports.

3. AI Agents for Coding

In the programming sphere, coding AI agents have emerged as powerful tools. Anthropic’s Claude Code functions within the terminal, understanding codebases, editing files, fixing bugs, and even managing version control with Git.

This agent operates based on the Claude 3.7 Sonnet AI model and can perform complex tasks autonomously. OpenAI’s Codex CLI tool offers similar functionalities with three operational modes: Suggest, Auto Edit, and Full Auto, the latter allowing for command execution without human oversight.

Furthermore, Cursor acts as an AI-infused code editor, completing tasks while keeping programmers informed, while Devin is designed for comprehensive software development, from planning to debugging.

4. Conversational AI Agents

Voice-based conversational AI agents represent another practical example of AI agents. The enhanced Gemini voice assistant on Android operates with a higher level of interactivity than traditional voice assistants, providing context-aware responses across multi-turn conversations.

This assistant can simultaneously execute multiple tasks, such as finding train schedules while setting reminders. Similar capabilities are seen in the Perplexity voice assistant on Android, capable of executing varied actions like making restaurant reservations or sending emails through voice commands.

Amazon’s new Alexa Plus voice assistant functions similarly, facilitating a range of actions including appointment scheduling and grocery ordering. Meanwhile, Apple has hinted at a more agentic AI version of Siri, expected to launch by the end of 2025.

5. Security AI Agents

AI is also making significant strides in the cybersecurity realm. AI agents are widely employed for threat detection, automated incident response, and behavioral analytics. Microsoft’s Security Copilot can assist organizations with phishing prevention, data protection, and identity management.

This tool comes equipped with six specialized agents designed to tackle high-volume security tasks, while Google has introduced Gemini security agents on Google Cloud to oversee comprehensive security management.

6. Healthcare AI Agents

AI agents are revolutionizing healthcare by automating administrative tasks like appointment scheduling, patient record management, and billing. They also assist in diagnostic support by analyzing medical imaging with impressive speed and accuracy.

For instance, a German company called Vara has developed AI software capable of early breast cancer detection. Furthermore, agents such as Google’s Articulate Medical Intelligence Explorer (AMIE) enable personalized patient interactions with diagnostic capabilities.

7. Customer Support AI Agents

Customer support is another domain where AI agents truly excel. With access to customer histories and order details, these AI systems provide around-the-clock assistance, addressing queries efficiently.

Major cloud solution providers offer customer engagement tools fortified with AI capabilities, enhancing service efficiency and resolving routine inquiries seamlessly.

8. Finance AI Agents

In finance, AI agents automate diverse tasks such as fraud detection and financial analysis. Leveraging vast datasets, they provide insights into investment opportunities aligned with users’ risk profiles, while also managing customer transactions to identify fraudulent activity.

Numerous financial institutions, including JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs, have embraced AI for risk assessment and client service enhancements.

9. Supply Chain AI Agents

Supply chain management is also benefiting from AI agents, which optimize logistics by tracking shipments, monitoring inventory levels, and forecasting demand trends.

These agents are particularly skilled at analyzing historical sales data and market dynamics to improve forecasting accuracy. Companies like Amazon and Walmart utilize AI to enhance their supply chain operations and optimize routes for cost efficiency.

10. Autonomous Vehicle AI Agents

Finally, autonomous vehicles represent the pinnacle of AI agent technology. These vehicles operate entirely independently, making split-second decisions based on real-time sensor data.

Notable examples include Waymo’s Level 4 autonomous cars, which are already in operation in several cities, providing completely driverless rides. Tesla vehicles also incorporate AI technology but require driver oversight, as they primarily depend on visual detection for obstacle avoidance.

In summary, these ten remarkable examples of AI agents in 2025 highlight their potential to transform various sectors. As we move deeper into this “agentic era,” the capabilities and reliability of AI agents will only continue to advance. What are your thoughts on the rise of AI agents? Feel free to share your insights!
