Experts have told BBC ve Daily Mail UK that people who smoke are more likely to get infected with Koronavirüs than the ones who don’t smoke.
Due to poor air quality and continuous smoking weakens the lungs that mean the immunity gets very low and a person is more likely to catch the virus in comparison with other people.
The study showed that young adults who are into smoking are more likely to get infected with Sars-COV-2 coronavirus. People who are into smoking have pre-existing lung issues due to smoking. And the lungs are further damaged by pollution due to bad air quality.
Head of Biosecurity of the University of New South Wales, Professor Raina MacIntyre told that “This (Coronavirus) virus is attacking the ones who have lung issues.“
Similar studies are compared with the Australian Bushfires and have said the people who are affected with the bushfire-smoke are still facing severe lung issues.
Associate Professor Sanjaya Senanayake from Australian National University (ANU) told that smoking link with coronavirus doesn’t mean you are getting directly from the cigarette. It means, when you start smoking, it weakens your lungs and then viruses such as coronavirus infect you.
Smoking also causes other severe diseases such as chronic heart and chronic lung diseases. Which have even worse outcomes than coronavirus. Dr. Senanayake urges people to leave smoking as it will save you from a number of diseases.
The cities with worst air quality as ranked by Global Air Quality Index includes;
- New Delhi
- Nakhon Sawan
- Parque de La Piedra
It is said that the virus is most likely to infect older people with a history of illness but with the habit of smoking, young people are also on the verge to get infected.
